Have you ever wondered why a post box doesn't smile ? …what is it that park benches do to relax ? …do the drains just go with the flow ? …and have the trees been acting shady lately ?

A surrealist, absurdist, and highly quizzical take on the everyday, audiObscura is designed to tantalise its audience with possibilities, but to never quite deliver the expected… allowing each audience the freedom to engage with their own imaginations.

audiObscura uses sound technologies in innovative and original ways to create soundscape environments - setting the extraordinary within the ordinary. The audience could for example, place their ear upon a tree or lamp post and listen to its thoughts. Park benches, drains, and post boxes offer opportunities to look at the every day from alternate perspectives. Eavesdropped conversations, bizarre noises and quirky juxtapositions, delight, entertain surprise and startle.

The equipment is designed to be flexible in application, with each separate installation being a self-contained battery powered unit. Units are constructed to be easily installed, weatherproof, and use non-invasive fixings. Performance timings can be tailored to suit any environment from short time-slots within a schedule of events to a continuous rolling program.

Nick and Paul also welcome creative opportunities through both commissioning and collaboration with other artists, or directly within the community, to develop new soundscapes and material for audiObscura.
